    Apulian wines 

    Puglia is one of the regions with the greatest wine production, there are also many wines produced including many DOCs, white wines, red wines, sparkling wines , in quantitative terms: the legacy of a situation repeated for decades, where Apulian wine took "the via del nord”, intended for other regions and also for other areas of Europe, where it was used as a blending wine to reinforce local wines, giving colour, structure and alcohol. In recent years, however, the situation has definitely changed and Apulian producers have begun to devote themselves to quality production, managing to create fine wines that have become famous and sought after, in the awareness of the enormous winemaking potential of the region. Negroamaro, Primitivo and Uva di Troia are grapes that have gained international prominence in recent years, marking the recovery of Apulian wines. But in Puglia not only red wines are produced, but also interesting white wines, especially from autochthonous grapes, such as Bombino Bianco, Malvasia Bianca, Verdeca, Moscato Bianco and Pampanuto. Curiosity, Chardonnay, despite being a grape that has no “historical” links with Puglia is, in fact, the most cultivated and widespread white grape of the region. A chapter in itself deserves the fragrant Apulian rosés, linked to a centuries-old tradition, especially in the Salento area, based on Negroamaro. Instead, the most common red berried grapes are: Negroamaro, Primitivo, Uva di Troia, Malvasia Nera (from Lecce and Brindisi), Bombino Nero, Susumaniello and Ottavianello, the name by which the French Cinsaut is called in the region. There are, as always, international grapes, above all Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ampelographic richness, tradition, climate: these are the most important ingredients that determine the success of wine-growing Puglia: great land, great wines.
