Mottura is a Piedmontese surname, but the estate is located, coincidentally, at the meeting point of three different regions: Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. In the 1960s, Sergio Mottura, in his early twenties, moved here to take over the management of the estate, purchased by his uncle a few years earlier. The agrarian reforms, primarily the abolition of sharecropping in 1964, marked the beginning of a new era, bringing with them the need to radically reorganize the commercial activities of the estate, preserving, and in some cases reviving, the crops and methods of traditional cultivation. Sergio understands that the key to achieving a sustainable transformation of the company lies in the revaluation and valorization of the historical tradition of viticulture in the area, which has long been abandoned. He thus becomes the pioneer of the "rediscovery" of native vines and to this end he dedicates his life to research and experimentation with traditional techniques and new technologies, studying the DNA of the most promising native vines, optimizing pruning methods, soil management and of the territory and the winemaking process itself, concentrating, over time, his attention on a particular grape: Grechetto. It should be noted that his Latour a Civitella , a Grechetto fermented in French oak barriques, was the first white wine from Lazio to be awarded the "three glasses" by Gambero Rosso, the most prestigious wine guide in Italy. The Mottura estate occupies 130 hectares in an area rich in natural resources, bordered to the west by the rolling hills and clay canyons of Civitella d'Agliano, and to the east by the Tiber valley which extends to Umbria. Different varieties of grapes are grown, both native and international: the red Procanico, the white Verdello, the Grechetto naturally, but also Chardonnay, Merlot, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Syrah and Pinot Noir - red varieties for which the Mottura estate often offers perfect conditions. Great wines, therefore, and great passion for the territory.
