Chianti Classico is a Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin (DOCG) wine which takes its name from an area with a strong and very ancient wine-growing vocation, straddling the provinces of Florence (30,400 hectares) and Siena (41,400 hectares). The production area and the reference grape (Sangiovese) had already been identified in 1700, so we can define it as the oldest disciplinary in the world! Over the centuries other grapes have been added to the composition of Chianti wine, including Canaiolo and Malvasia, but Sangiovese must be present at least in 80%. The types envisaged by the denomination are 3: Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva and Chianti Classico Gran Selezione and differ in the aging in wooden barrels, of increasing duration. It should be remembered that, outside the Chianti Classico area, there are 8 other areas with the Chianti DOCG denomination and they are: Chianti, Chianti Colli Aretini, Chianti Colli Fiorentini, Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti Colline Pisane, Chianti Montalbano, Chianti Montespertoli and Chianti Rufina.
Chianti Classico wine is one of the most loved Italian wines in the world and is produced in an area located between the provinces of Florence and Siena. It has very ancient origins dating back to the beginning of the 18th century, when it was produced with Sangiovese grapes ; from the 19th century onwards, this grape was accompanied by others from other vines. The Chianti wine has a ruby red color and a dry taste, ideal for meat, cheese and game dishes.
