This vine, typically from Puglia, almost certainly has Dalmatian origins and finds its maximum expression in the area of Manduria, in the province of Taranto. Recent studies have found that there are very strong similarities between Primitivo and Californian Zinfandel: this certainly takes away a lot of pleasure from friends from the West Coast of the USA who believed it was a native American vine. For many decades Primitivo has been used as a blended grape or wine, due to its truly exuberant power, alcohol content and colour. Modern and recent agronomic and enological techniques have instead managed to tame this grape and for some decades the quality of production has really soared, bringing truly extraordinary wines to our tables. The Primitivo thus produced generally has an intense and deep ruby color, with violet hues. The scent is of red fruits such as black cherry, blackberry, plum, with additional floral notes of violet. The aging in wood gives it spicy hints. On the palate it is warm, full and enveloping, with delicate tannins and good persistence.
The Primitivo vine is grown especially in the province of Taranto, especially in the Manduria area. The resulting wines are ruby red in color, with a warm and spicy sensation on the palate. The most important denomination born from this berry is certainly the Primitivo di Manduria DOC , a dry and soft wine, but there are also the Salenti IGT, the Tarantino IGT and many others.
Vinopuro offers a wide selection of wines from the Primitivo variety. Here you will find the best bottles of the most important producers that can also be purchased on special offers with discounted prices. Choose from the different vintages and from the various denominations.
