The Barbera d'Alba DOC Trevigne from the Piedmontese winery Domenico Clerico is a thick red wine produced with 100% Barbera grapes. In Piedmont this wine is traditionally indicated for women, while the grape variety is indicated for men. Barbera and Sangiovese are the two most widespread vine varieties in the Bel Paese. Barbera d'Alba DOC Trevigne is an excellent aging wine that can easily be left to rest in the cellar for 4-5 years. Made following the production philosophy of the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers, of which the winery is a part, this Barbera is the fruit of red berried grapes from 25-year-old vines, grown in two Barolo crus, Ginestra and San Pietro. After harvesting the grapes, the vinification takes place entirely in steel, followed by a maturation lasting 16 months for 50% in French oak barriques, while for the other 50% in large oak barrels. The result is a warm wine with medium structure and good persistence.
