    Verdicchio

Verdicchio is a great vine from the Marche region which differs, in terms of regulation, in Verdicchio di Jesi and Matelica . Its name, as also happens in many other similar cases, derives from the color of its berries, therefore greenish. Recent DNA studies have confirmed its identity with Trebbiano di Soave and Trebbiano di Lugana. Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi has a greater body than Verdicchio di Matelica, which however generally has a greater olfactory impact. Today Verdicchio has also spread to other areas of the region, as well as to nearby Umbria and Abruzzo, but the grape variety tends to lose its backbone (and even bring out some negative characteristics) when grown outside the terroir of origin. Verdicchio is suitable both for vinification in steel and wood and has the potential to produce wines of great longevity, thanks also to the great structure, acidity and high alcohol content. Verdicchio is a rather eclectic vine, it is usually vinified alone, but it can be appreciated, without losing its main characteristics, even in the sparkling version, classic method or charmat, passito or late harvest.
