It is the "king" wine of the Maremma and has deservedly achieved great fame in the last 10 years, overshadowing the name of other great Tuscan wines . It is based on Sangiovese grapes (minimum 85%) and has very specific organoleptic characteristics: it has a modest acidity content, with a ruby red color which with maturation, especially in the Riserva type, evolves towards garnet. On the nose, the aroma is intense and complex, with notes of wild berries. On the palate, it is dry, warm and fairly tannic. A modern, dynamic, very versatile wine. Furthermore, it has been a DOCG (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin) since 2008. In Maremma, the winemaking tradition is very ancient, dating back to the time of the Etruscans and its name seems to come from the type of horses used in the area, called Morelli, precisely. These animals have a completely black coat, like the eyes and are very elegant. What distinguishes it from the great Tuscan reds? Certainly, the terroir (as the French say), or that mix of geological, climatic conditions and also linked to local winemaking traditions. The sea and dry and windy climate allow the grapes to ripen to perfection, but to maintain great aromatic finesse, sapidity and freshness: Morellino is not full-bodied and tannic, on the contrary it has a delicious pleasantness. It is the perfect wine for those looking for a fragrant and refined red.
The Morellino di Scansano DOCG is one of the most important wines of the Tuscany Region and is mainly produced from grapes of the Sangiovese vine, for the rest from non-aromatic black berried grapes grown in some areas of Tuscany.
This wine boasts a ruby red color (which in the Riserva type can reach garnet); it has a moderate acidity and the nose has notes of wild berries, while the palate is dry.
