Burgundy

This extraordinary wine area, unique in the world and for this UNESCO HERITAGE, develops narrow and long from north to south between Auxerre and Lyon for a length of about 250 km. The city of reference is Dijon. The grapes for which it is known throughout the world are three: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gamay . The best Chardonnays in the world are produced in the Chablis area and there are the ideal conditions for the production of structured, mineral and long-lived white wines . The famous Beaujolais Nouveau is produced with Gamay, a light, very fruity wine, ready in November and the result of a very particular vinification, called carbonic maceration . The greatest red wines on the planet are made with Pinot Noir; a striking example, perhaps the most expensive wine in the world, namely the legendary Romanée-Conti . A very important and typical aspect of this area is the fact that the wines produced in Burgundy cannot be considered simply for the specific characteristics of the grapes used (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the most valuable), but above all for the area of production which (at a geological and climatic level) strongly characterizes the final product. A curiosity: the region which, together with Champagne, makes France famous in the world represents, quantitatively, only 5% of national production!
