Marchesi di Barolo

The Antiche Cantine dei Marchesi di Barolo are based in Barolo, in the building overlooking the Castle of the Marchesi Falletti. Right here, more than 200 years ago, a beautiful story began. The story of a winery, protected by rolling hills in the heart of the Langhe, where a wine was born which, in the fashion of French tradition, was called Barolo in honor of its place of birth. This story was destined to intersect with that of another family: the Abbona family who had founded their own winery “Cavalier Felice Abbona e Figli” in the small square at the foot of the access arch to the castle of the Marquises of Barolo. Precisely in those years, in fact, Pietro Abbona was born who, working with tenacity and competence in his father's cellars, together with his brother Ernesto and his sisters Marina and Celestina, managed to purchase the Tenuta Opera Pia Barolo Agency, i.e. the ancient winemaking cellars and refinement of the Marchesi di Barolo. Coming to the present day, the Abbona family continues the work begun more than two centuries ago: producing high quality wines, destined to enrich, year by year, the history of a great winery where current affairs and tradition meet and where they are handed down , from father to son, an important heritage of vineyards, cellars and knowledge for more than five generations now.
