At the foot of Gassin, one of the three villages of the Saint-Tropez peninsula, stands the historic Château Barbeyrolles which, over the centuries, has made many artists and painters fall in love, thanks to its unique and natural beauty and which managed to repeat itself again in 1977 with Régine Sumeire, so much so that it led to the purchase of the current property. Starting from the following year, the renewal and restoration of the vineyards began and in 1982 the first bottles produced were marketed. Régine, at the time, was among the first women to produce wine in Provence and, thanks to the numerous awards obtained, she was then appointed commander of the Illustrious Order of the Knights of Medusa, lady of the Order of the Table and Wine, as well as member of the French Wine Academy, very prestigious honors in France, in the world of wine. At the Château, between 2004 and 2005, a new cellar was built, modeled on those in the Champagne region, with a production part that follows the principle of gravity for the processing of musts and supported by two very modern hydraulic presses. This implementation is the result of a new philosophy applied to its wines, starting from the year 2000 when, following family tradition, production became entirely biodynamic, i.e. paying total respect to the valorisation of the surrounding area. To Régine and to this Chateau, we owe one of the best rosés of Provence, a wine that changed the conception of this genre and that has enchanted palates all over the world, the “Pétale de rose”. The main feature of this label is its particularly pale shade, which is reflected in fruity and airy notes, which over the years has become a source of inspiration and imitation by all the other producers in the area, making it a real symbol of Provençal wine production.
