Cinzia Merli and her husband Eugenio Campolmi were among the first to believe in an area that, at the time, was still simply a holiday resort on the edge of time, among fascinating villages, olive trees, vineyards and a splendid sea, but without any history or winemaking vocation. Le Macchiole was born, in fact, in Bolgheri in 1983; today we all know it as a district with a great wine-growing vocation, on an international level, but at the time it was certainly not like that. And the founders also believe in the potential of single-varietal wines, in the so-called "international" vines and in organic agriculture which, at the time, represented real challenges. The first bottles were produced in 1987, but it was the 1990s that proved decisive for the definition of the company and its international success. The company today has approximately 24 hectares of property which are arranged in a semicircle, like an amphitheatre, and are managed in an impeccable and meticulous manner, as we said, according to the dictates of organic farming. Viticulture, in fact, is the cornerstone from which everything began, through important investments in research in the vineyard, with the aim of best expressing this great territory in the wines produced, always respecting the environment. In the vineyards there is space for Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, which are expressed in the cellar through pure vinification. We are talking about grapes capable of giving life to famous wines, which have won over enthusiasts and international critics such as "Scrio", "Paleo Rosso" and above all "Messorio", determining in some way the famous "SuperTuscan" category. These are original wines, precursors of a style and endowed with an absolute personality, fragrant, rich and complex, perfect expression of the "Bolgheri terroir", and promptly proving, season after season, to be undisputed champions.
