It was the English who paved the way for the qualitative rebirth of Chianti , purchasing many properties in the area and naming it Chiantishire , but the presence of German-speaking investors in the world of wine was even more solid, including in 1981, Brigitte and Bruno Widmer who they fall in love with the area and buy a declining estate, founding the Brancaia winery. The company is located in Radda in Chianti and produces highly successful Chianti Classico and Supertuscan wines. The choice is careful: the vineyards are located on the gentle slopes between Castellina in Chianti and Radda in Chianti, and, over time, it has become a point of reference for those looking for rich and structured, intense, long and balanced wines. The first recognition came only two years later than the acquisition of the company, in 1983, when Brancaia ranked first in a tasting of Chianti Classico. This drive led to a continuous expansion of the company, first in 1989 with the purchase of Podere Poppi in Radda in Chianti and then in 1998 with the creation of Brancaia in Maremma, a beautiful estate not far from the sea. Much of the credit certainly goes to the oenologist Carlo Ferrini who worked with the family for two decades, right from the beginning, but Barbara, the second generation of the Widmers, is now solidly Italian, as she is professionally trained, being a qualified oenologist and active participant in every phase of the production of the house wines. Among the flagship wines of the House, the sensational Chianti Classico Riserva , a rich and long-limbed wine, an interpretation of great finesse and one of the most iconic Chiantis in Italy, as well as the very elegant super Tuscan ' Il Blu ', based on Sangiovese , Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon along with the sumptuous and austere ' Ilatraia ' based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Lastly, the extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon , a monovarietal wine with an exceptional compact and silky tannic texture and intense persistence.
