A great intuition, that of Sergio Manetti, a steel entrepreneur: recovering an ancient farmhouse and investing, at a wine level, in one of the most prestigious realities in Tuscany, which perhaps more than any other is synonymous with Sangiovese and tradition. Thus was born Montevertine, a winery founded in the late 1960s, in the heart of Chianti Classico, not far from Radda in Chianti. The restoration of the structure was thus followed by the first planting of 2 hectares of vineyards, flanked by a small cellar. The first vintage was 1971 and achieved excellent success; Sergio thus decides to abandon his activities and dedicate himself completely to the production of wine. He was immediately joined in the cellar by what was considered the greatest Sangiovese expert of the time, the unforgettable Giulio Gambelli. The project is, from the start, ambitious and precise: producing quality wines with the most rigorous respect for tradition, the territory and the grape variety. The first years are certainly experimental, but the results are not long in coming. At the end of the 70s the name of Montevertine began to circulate in all the specialized magazines as one of the best examples of Chianti Classico. In 1977 we had the turning point: "Le Pergole Torte" was born, the first pure Sangiovese vinified ever produced in the area. And here we witness a paradox: the wine is rejected by the Chianti Classico consortium, as it does not respect the rules of the specification: being vinified only with Sangiovese, it does not also include the other grapes foreseen in the specification of the time! However, this does not prevent him from achieving resounding success with the public and critics. Even the label, designed by Alberto Manfredi, contributes to the exploit, making this wine even more fascinating, which over time will become a reference icon of pure Sangiovese. Montevertine boasts 18 hectares of organically grown vineyards and is skilfully managed by Martino Manetti, Sergio's son. In addition to the famous "Le Pergole Torte", the company produces other very interesting labels, including "Pian del Ciampolo" and "Montevertine", both with the Toscana Rosso IGT denomination. Extraordinary wines, unique wines, wines to taste!
