We are in Gavi, one of the most beautiful and suitable areas of Piedmontese viticulture, especially when it comes to white wines. And a native grape like Cortese finds its true homeland here, either due to the perfect climate for growing vines or due to a geological situation extremely suited to the production of wine grapes. Ottosoldi was born here, a young winery founded a few years ago, in 2010, with a simple yet exciting project: combining the experience of the Moccagatta family, already owners of the prestigious Villa Sparina winery (also in Gavi), with the passion of the Marsiaj family . Wine and lifelong friendship are the solid glue of this new reality with promising ambitions. It is curious to remember that the name of the new reality was chosen in honor of Stefano Moccagatta's grandfather, who bought the first land in this area with eight pennies, many, many years ago. At the moment, the vineyards of the Ottosoldi winery extend for approximately 5 hectares, cultivated exclusively in Cortese, in an optimal position, on the Gavi hills, at 250-300 meters above sea level in a wonderful amphitheater facing south-west. The vines are grown with "guyot" systems and according to the dictates of organic farming, a need strongly felt among the founders, which respects the rhythms of nature and excludes the use of fertilizers and synthetic chemical substances. The Ottosoldi winery is a winery closely linked to tradition, the territory and the production of quality wine, in fact it focuses its attention only and exclusively on 3 labels, two of which are based on the same grape variety: Cortese. The local wine is undoubtedly the Gavi docg, but the sparkling wine made with the Classic method, also based on the Cortese grape, the Blanc de Blanc, is of extreme interest. The third wine is a classic local red, Barbera, which undergoes precious aging in wooden barrels for a few months.
