Recommended glass

Glass
It is the perfect glass for structured, intense, aged red wines or potentially suitable for refinement; this type of wine certainly needs to "open" (that means to better develop its aromatic, intense and complex profile) and this is possible by the prolonged contact with oxygen (oxygenation) which, in fact, is facilitated by the generous cup size.

Longevity
This wine is ready to be tasted now, with great satisfaction; however, it has qualities that allow it to evolve and refine over time, if properly stored, for at least another 7-8 years.

Description

The Sassicaia vintage 2017 starts off on the right foot! Undoubtedly this extraordinary Tuscan wine, progenitor of the so-called SuperTuscans (great wines produced in Tuscany, but with grapes of French origin, therefore not native, such as cabernet, merlot, syrah, etc.) has collected since 1968, the year of its first release, awards and memorable scores to say the least and brought to the global limelight a territory, that of Bolgheri, which before then had no wine history. We know that when we talk about great wines, the vintage has a fundamental importance on the quality of the final product: the 2016 harvest had already collected stratospheric awards and judgements, but 2017 is considered superior, therefore an absolute champion. And it is worth remembering that all of this is evaluated on the basis of today's tastings, therefore having to hypothesize and project today's wine as it will or could be in 10, 15, 20 years or more; all this requires great technique and above all great tasting experience. The 2017 Sassicaia vintage saw long, hot summer months that fueled sustained growth and ripening of the grapes. On the other hand, higher rainfall than in the 2016 season guaranteed decidedly more acidic Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The 2017 vintage therefore shows sharpness and precision. This great acidity will carry this wine long into the future as the wine completes its slow evolutionary course. "The 2017 Sassicaia has a distinct flavor of blackberry, ripe cherry, grilled herbs and spices. The scents flow from the glass in a continuous stream and are all marked by radiant intensity. The sensation is long and persistent. The freshness of the tannic backbone of the wine is perfectly balanced by the depth of the fruit scents" (cit.). Extraordinary.
