'Lighea' Zibibbo Sicilia DOC Donnafugata 2022

Zibibbo "Lighea" is a white wine classified as Sicilia DOC Zibibbo. It is produced on the island of Pantelleria by the Donnafugata agricultural company which has been able to make Sicilian wines famous throughout the world. The name of this wine is a tribute to Tomasi di Lampedusa who wrote a story in which Lighea, a siren, is one of the main characters. Pantelleria is an island of volcanic origin where the cultivation of vines takes on almost heroic characteristics, requiring a much higher manpower than the norm. The vines are placed in basins and trained with an almost creeping pattern to protect them from the incessantly blowing wind. Zibibbo "Lighea" is produced exclusively with Zibibbo grapes, a vine native to North Africa and brought to Pantelleria by the Arabs. The harvest begins at the end of August and lasts until September. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel, while the refinement begins in the tank and ends in the bottle. Zibibbo "Lighea" is a structured, strongly aromatic and very versatile white wine.
