The wines of Chateau d'Yquem are the only Sauternes in the world to boast the classification of Premier Cru Supérieur , also defined as "Premier Grand Cru". Napoleon III wanted the Chateau properties to be awarded the title of "Premier Cru Supérieur" in the official classification of Bordeaux wines. These are very great wines which, in some exceptional years, reach the status of true masterpieces, endowed with extraordinary aging potential. The Sauternes of Chateau d'Yquem reach record prices because they reach legendary quality peaks and carry on a unique and prestigious history.

Today the Chateau d'Yquem can boast an agricultural heritage of 126 hectares, cultivated with respect for nature: without the use of herbicides and with abundant pruning which favors quantitatively very low, but extremely excellent yields. The grapes are harvested in several steps while they are fully ripe, with the bunches attacked by Botrytis Cinerea , the noble rot that makes Sauternes inimitable. In the cellar, multiple pressings are necessary to allow the extraction of the natural sugars present in the grapes. Fermentation takes place in new barriques, rigorously selected and built every year by artisan coopers. In short, with Yquem we are talking about the Rolls Royce of Sauternes, dessert wines so particular and exceptional that they have been recognised, appreciated and rewarded since time immemorial all over the world.
