In the heart of the historic Verdicchio area is the Sartarelli winery, located in Poggio San Marcello, in the province of Ancona; it has been active since the early seventies and is considered a small gem set along the Esino river, 350 meters above sea level, in the green hills of the Marche region. Founded by Ferruccio Sartarelli, one of the first promoters of quality Verdicchio, today it is directed by Donatella and her husband Patrizio Chiacchiarini who over the years have made what was previously a small local reality grow exponentially, quantitatively, but above all qualitatively; before their rise, the hectares of vineyards were only 15, while today we can count as many as 55. The hectares of the winery are monovarietal, one of the few in Italy to be able to boast something similar, and are planted in Verdicchio with the aim of enhancing the typicality and the traditional nature of the place. Although it is only one type of vine, numerous crus can be counted, with different styles, due to the different soil compositions and particular exposures. The processing of the aforementioned grapes takes place strictly by hand, both for pruning and for harvesting, to ensure that the best experts in the field select the best bunches. The entire plant growth process takes place in the name of sustainable agriculture, with the least possible number of pesticides, to enhance the naturalness of the product and the land. In the cellar, the entire procedure is followed by an expert oenologist and each step is designed to allow the wines to best express their organoleptic potential. The winery can count various awards and recognitions on many of its wines, among which we cannot fail to mention the "Balciana", which takes its name from the vineyard of the same name, created from a mid-November harvest and with its aromatic complexity and high sugar content; another illustrious label is undoubtedly the "Tralivio", refined and balanced, a great expression of the ancient tradition.
