Barr An Uisce

Barr An Uisce
Information
Region: United Kingdom
Address: Innopharma building, Ravenscourt Campus, Three Rock Road, Dublin 18

As you can already guess from the name, which recalls the territorial origins, this whiskey was born in that strip of land disputed with the sea, where Irish and Scottish traditions blend together to create a unique product. In both nations, the cultivation of cereals, fundamental for obtaining whiskey (which is a derivative of their distillation), has always played an important role in the local economy. If Scotland is synonymous with famous distilleries, in Ireland there are some gems that produce excellent interpretations of this spirit. Among these, a place of honor goes to the Barr An Uisce distillery, located in the town of Barraniskey, located on the coast overlooking the Scottish territories. In ancient Gaelic, the name of the distillery wants to indicate something that is born "above the water" and is an ideal reference not only to the great relationship that exists with the sea and with the aquatic element in general, but above all it wants to pay homage to the sources of crystal clear water, fundamental for producing this truly inimitable whisky. At the moment the two owners Jason Stubbs and Ian Jones have chosen to include only two labels in their production: the 'WickLow Rare' and the 10 YO '1803'. This is not surprising, if we consider that the distillery was founded only in 2016 from the professional partnership of these two friends who boast two very distinct career paths and who only recently decided - in front of a good pint of beer - to dedicate themselves to their great passion, whisky. Despite their short history, the two labels are already enjoying excellent success at competitions where the best spirits come together and represent a coherent business card of these two producers. Even if the reality is very young, compared to the most famous names, thanks to a skilful union of tradition and an eye to the future, Barr An Uisce truly seems destined to write another page in the history of Irish whiskies.
