The history of Castello di Ama, producer of excellent wines, began in the eighteenth century, a time in which it had already been reported as the "best place in Chianti for wines" by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo of Habsburg Lorraine, visiting the area in 1773! And a plaque in the company commemorates these words of admiration. And this story continues in the seventies thanks to Tomaso Carini who begins a new adventure aimed at high level wine production, involving three friends: GianVittorio Cavanna, Lionello Sebasti and Pietro Tradico to develop the rebirth of this territory together. The four entrepreneurs, led by Cavanna father and son, replanted a good part of the vineyards and built a modern fermentation cellar which has become an innovative model for the entire territory. In 1982 Marco Pallanti, a young Florentine agronomist, joined Ama and became the company's winemaker. Lorenza Sebasti, daughter of Lionello, one of the owners, took over the management of the company in 1993 and together with Marco shared, with identical passion, an evolutionary vision, implementing it with work that has lasted for 40 years. Today the second generation of the Carini, Tradico and Sebasti families is present in the company. The company is located in Ama, in the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, in the province of Siena, and enjoys five splendid vineyards, along the 89 hectares owned by the estate. Located almost 500 meters above sea level, the lands are characterized by different exposures and structures, which correspond to names coined by tradition, inspired by the surrounding villages or local characteristics: the “Bellavista” Vineyard, the “La Casuccia” Vineyard , the “San Lorenzo” vineyard, the “Bertinga” vineyard and, finally, the “Montebuoni” vineyard. The production is very careful and clearly sees Chianti Classico as the protagonist in various selections and Reserves, even if one label, which goes beyond the local tradition, stands out above all: it is "L'Apparita", a pure merlot, considered among the best in the world and awarded highly coveted prizes by the most prestigious international critics.
