A lot of experience and a great goal are behind the birth of Masseria Li Veli. The experience is given by the Falvo family, with over 40 years of experience in the wine sector, first as founders of Avignonesi in Montepulciano and then, again in the Siena area, of Classica, the first national distributor of quality wines. The objective: to give life to a high quality project in Puglia, a region with very ancient winemaking traditions, unfortunately known (at the time) only for large quantity production. Here in 1999 the Falvo family purchased and re-founded Masseria Li Veli which was born as a cellar, in the early twentieth century, on the ashes of a late medieval building, of which only a few traces remain today incorporated into the current structure, completely renovated. Its ancient founder, the Marquis Antonio de Viti de Marco, an internationally renowned economist from Lecce, in the first decades of the 20th century made Li Veli a winery taken as a model throughout the South. The farm today stands on an ancient Messapian site that dominates the fertile and sunny plain of Salento and with the Falvos everything was reborn and the farm, perfectly restored, is the home of Edoardo and Alfredo Falvo who, in addition to meticulous care in the vineyard, produce of wines in perfect symbiosis with their land: they are produced from native vines, respecting the history and tradition of the territory, bringing the agronomic and oenological know-how essential to achieve elegance, freshness and pleasantness. Grape varieties such as Negroamaro, Sussumaniello, Primitivo, Fiano, Malvasia Nera, Verdeca and Aleatico are the true protagonists of the oenological renaissance not only of the winery, led at an oenological level by one of the most esteemed Italian oenologists, Riccardo Cotarella , but of the entire region. 48 hectares of the property are dedicated to viticulture, obsessively cared for following the ancient local cultivation traditions, combined with modern agronomic knowledge because we know that great wines are born only from great grapes.
