Carpineto is the story of two friends and their families, united by a common love for Sangiovese and a strong desire to participate in the wine renaissance in Tuscany. Thus, in 1967, Tenuta Carpineto was born in the small hamlet of Dudda, in the municipality of Greve in Chianti. It was founded by Giovanni Carlo Sacchet and Antonio Mario Zaccheo who, driven by the strong ambition of producing a Chianti Classico of the highest quality level, decided to start this great adventure together. At that time, it was the time of Chianti in straw flasks exported all over the world in millions of bottles of poor quality, produced by several industries in the area; this strategy had contributed significantly to the deterioration of the image of wine-growing Tuscany; Carpineto plans a diametrically opposite path, aiming for innovative agriculture: the careful selection of agricultural sites for new quality vineyards, the selection of clones, but also an agriculture strongly oriented towards low yields. Even in the cellar there is a lot of experimentation and innovation, experimenting with controlled malolactic fermentation, the use of indigenous yeasts, cold and carbonic macerations and barrique refinements. The results are exciting, the labels produced soon achieve international success with both the public and critics, as in 1994 at the IWSC in London, with the Chianti Classico Riserva, the Vino Nobile Riserva and the Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon which were awarded the medal gold, and Giancarlo Sacchet wins the award as best winemaker in the world, the first Italian to boast this title. In 1998 Farnito Cabernet Sauvignon entered the list of the 100 best wines in the world in the Wine Spectator ranking; this will be repeated 3 more times with the Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva reaching eleventh position. Today the Sacchet and Zaccheo families work together managing 5 estates, 500 hectares of vineyards, all cultivated in a sustainable way and with very low environmental impact, with zero emissions. Caterina Sacchet is the oenologist who inherits from her father not only a great wealth of knowledge, but also a strong passion for the territory and the Chianti tradition, with great results.
