Podere Il Carnasciale has a truly original history: it all began in the early 1980s when the German Wolf Rogosky and his wife Bettina fell in love with Tuscany and purchased a farm in Mercatale Valdarno, a property cultivated entirely with olive trees. Wolf has a truly bizarre idea: he wants to plant a unique grape variety, called L32, which is a natural and inexplicable cross, found in an abandoned vineyard in the Euganean Hills, born (it seems) from the union of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Wolf tasted it right there, in Veneto, some time ago, produced by the oenologist Vittorio Fiore, and it was love at first taste. The oenologist Peter Schilling was an accomplice to the crazy operation: Wolf immediately christened it ' Caberlot ' and, in 1985, planted a clone among his olive groves. The first bottles date back to 1988 and stand out for their uniqueness and their characteristics of great structure and elegance. The wine convinces, indeed it forcefully enters the elite of top Italian wines in a short space of time. For years, Carnasciale produced only small quantities of Camerlot, no other labels. Today Il Carnasciale boasts almost 5 hectares of owned vineyards which have passed into the hands of Moritz Rogosky (Wolf's son), always under the supervision of his mother Bettina, with the collaboration of the historic winemaker Peter Schilling and Marco Maffei, new entry. In the cellar, the production process is conducted with extreme care and guided by the search for the best expression of this unique vine, which moreover has a strong variability, depending on the vintage. Very small quantities are still produced every year, only 3,500 magnum bottles of Caberlot, hand-numbered by Bettina, which has also been joined by the traditional 0.75 liter bottle and, recently, by a second wine made with pure Sangiovese: l " Eighty-Two ". It is a unique wine with great structure, with spicy, vegetal and floral aromas and soft, intense tannins. "Caberlot" can be considered a Supertuscan in all respects, sought after by collectors, venerated by all lovers of great Tuscan reds.
