The name of the 14th century fortress Castello di Romitorio corresponds to that of the prestigious agricultural company of Montalcino, the famous town located in the hilly area of the north-eastern part of Monte Amiata; that is, in an area that enjoys both fresh currents coming from the north and Mediterranean ones coming from the south. From the early 1980s the Tuscan Castle became the property of the famous Italian "Transavantgarde" artist Sandro Chia. In addition to its prestigious cellar, the company is also known for its oil and its grappa. After having recovered the prestigious buildings of the castle, Chia, a great wine enthusiast with the sole aim of producing quality labels, dedicated himself to planting new vineyards. In 1984 Chia bottled its first wine called "Romito del Romitorio". Success is rampant. In 2006, Castello Romitorio inaugurated its new cellar at the foot of the fortress, a truly original reality that unites Chia's passion for wine and art in a single heart. It is no coincidence that, next to barrels and barriques, imposing sculptures rise up which unite the artist's great passions in a single common thread. Castello Romitorio dedicates its activity to the valorisation of Brunello di Montalcino. The profound knowledge of the territory, the respect for the local winemaking tradition, together with the bond that Chia has established with the cellar master Franco Martini, express the highest essence of a high quality Brunello di Montalcino. The Tuscan company is made up of 3 estates. Those proposed by Castello Romitorio are all terroir wines, produced both from native vines and from international vines which, thanks to the experience of the oenologist Carlo Ferrini, give the consumer's palate unique emotions. Following a philosophy aimed at quality, the Castello Romitorio company produces a limited quantity of bottles every year. Along with the famous Brunello di Montalcino, we offer other interesting wines such as, for example, Morellino di Scansano docg.
