Von Othegraven
Information
Region: Germany
Address: Weinstraße 1 54441 Kanzem

Von Othergraven is a winery located in the Saar Valley, in the Moselle wine region: the wines of this area are strongly determined by the climate and in important vintages the Riesling has a very particular minerality and freshness character, so they are considered among the greatest whites in the world, such as the Von Othegraven wines which give unique emotions. The most important, and therefore most coveted, territories are located in the municipalities of Kanzem and Wiltingen located on the edges of the Saar river. The estate, which dates back to the 16th century, covers 16 hectares of pure riesling land in Kanzem, owned by Gunter Jauch whose grandmother was a von Othegraven. Most wines have sweet and semi-sweet characteristics typical of the Kabinett and Spätlese classifications. Kabinett wines are made from grapes harvested in normal periods, they are light and drinkable wines to pair with everyday food. Spätlese (lit. Late harvest) are instead dry (trocken) or semi-dry (halbtrochen) wines derived from late harvests, and therefore fruitier and richer in aromas, capable of good aging. They are wines that can be drunk alone, for example as an aperitif, or combined with more structured foods that can stand up to the wine itself. Von Othegraven's is widely recognized as a top winery, above all thanks to the production of excellent international wines, such as Gault-Millau, Merano Wine, which have always been cited in Robert Parker's Wine Guide, as well as in Wein magazines. -Plus and Wine Spectator.
