The history of Langa wines inevitably passes through one name: Borgogno. It is in fact one of the oldest and most glorious producers of Langhe wine: a winery founded in 1761 which wrote the history of Barolo and which was, for many generations of producers, the reference model of excellence. Suffice it to say that on the table at the official lunch celebrating the Unification of Italy in 1861, there was Barolo di Borgogno, chosen by Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour. The main protagonist of the success of the winery was Cesare Borgogno, who deserves the credit of having extended the market well beyond the Piedmontese borders, i.e. throughout the world and who renamed the company "Giacomo Borgogno & Figli", in honor of his father. it is worth mentioning the fact that in 2008 the cellar was taken over by the Farinetti family who had the merit of bringing new lifeblood to the history of this wine institution, recovering the most authentic traditions of the Langhe. Today the Borgogno winery owns 31 hectares of vineyards, located in various crus in the municipality of Barolo, where it has always been based. We are talking about extraordinary vineyards located in the Liste, Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati and San Pietro delle Viole crus which today represent a heritage of great value, from which labels of absolute prestige are born. Great importance is given to the environmental impact of production and for this reason we chose to work organically. Only fertilizers of organic origin are used in the vineyard, without resorting to herbicides and favoring treatments that respect environmental sustainability. In the cellar, the tradition of the fathers who made the red wines of the Langhe great is respected: fermentation takes place spontaneously thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts in cement tanks, as in the past, and for refinements we use exclusively traditional large barrels of oak. The wines signed by Giacomo Borgogno & Figli today reflect a simple and very clear production philosophy: "don't change anything! Remaining classics and traditionalists”, as one of the winery's mottos states. For this reason, Borgogno wines still maintain an aristocratic and austere style that reveals itself over time, capable of evolving magnificently for decades. Exactly like the wines of the past!
