The name La Scolca derives from the ancient toponym Sfurca, which means "to look into the distance". And it is precisely from this philosophy that the company's success begins and five generations have been inspired by this: they have always looked ahead, constantly trying to improve themselves. Scolca is known worldwide for Gavi, the best-known white wine from Piedmont. The headquarters are right in Gavi, in the province of Alessandria, in the south of Piedmont where the Piedmontese dialect mixes with the Ligurian and Lombard ones. The cellar was acquired by the great-grandfather of the current owners, Giorgio Soldati and his daughter Chiara. The vineyards of La Scolca extend for 64 hectares and, among the various plots, the one in the municipality of Rovereto could be defined as the "grand cru" of Cortese, that is, the most suitable vineyard of all, with the best grapes produced. Giorgio Soldati has, over time, significantly expanded the range of wines produced, while always maintaining the use of the Cortese vine for his most requested and successful products. In the La Scolca vineyards, maximum attention is paid throughout the production phase, from the vineyard to the cellar: from "green pruning", where necessary, up to the harvest which generally takes place a little earlier than other producers. Great attention is also paid to the environment, where for some years the entire agricultural management regime has followed the dictates of biodynamic agriculture; it is a method, a real philosophy of life that considers man, the earth and the cosmos inserted in a single universal context. The resulting concepts and behaviors are totally based on the natural management of vineyards and wines, eliminating any synthetic chemical substance, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The wines, by choice, have labels with an unmistakable retro taste. Absolutely noteworthy are the Classic Method sparkling wines, always based on courteous, great expression of the territory, in elegance and intensity.
