Porto Vintage Niepoort 2019

The Porto Vintage Niepoort is produced in the Alto Duoro Valley, northern Portugal. Here the schist makes its way into the granite soils of the region: fragile and moist, it allows the vine to take root. About half of the vineyard sites are located on slopes with gradients greater than 30%. The hills are protected from the cold and humid Atlantic climate by 4 mountain ranges, while, to the west, the Serra do Marão serves as a reliable climate barrier. The vines used are autochthonous, such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão and Tinta Roriz, grown in the 60 to 100 year old vines of Vinha da Pisca, Pinhão and Ferrão. The port forwarding house of Niepoort has been producing by hand since 1842 in Vila de Gaia and is today in the fifth generation of the family which has founded its reputation on the commitment to preserve the ancient local vines. The grapes are trodden in old granite lagares and the bottling takes place without filtration, according to the authentic port tradition. The Niepoort Vintage Port comes from overripe and hand-picked grapes. Dense, intense, exciting wine, with dense and concentrated aromas, ideal after a meal.
