Villa Matilde Avallone

Villa Matilde Avallone
Information
Region: Campania (Italian wines)

Fattoria Villa Matilde was born from a sincere and deep-rooted passion for the "classical world", reconciled with the desire to produce wines of extraordinary quality, genuine and authentic. The winery was founded in the 1960s by a group of friends led by Francesco Paolo Avallone and driven by curiosity towards the compositions of Virgil, Horace and Marziale, centered on Falernum: the latter, for the ancient Romans, was the wine par excellence, defined as immortal and widely praised by Latin poets. Avallone succeeded in a historic undertaking, namely that of identifying the Falerno grapes and replanting them in the Massico area, in the province of Caserta. The estate is in fact located in the Cellole area, whose wine history can boast a series of wines known throughout the world for their purity, elegance and balance of aromas and flavours. One of the key principles of Fattoria Villa Matilde is the harmony between tradition and innovation, between past and future. The very birth of the company is due to the desire to recover a product from ancient times and bring it back to the current era, without giving up modern means of winemaking and the most advanced technologies. The latter are designed with full respect for nature and are aimed at reducing consumption, waste and environmental impact. The company also includes a farmhouse, where it is possible to taste numerous local dishes and immerse yourself in the gastronomic tradition of Campania. Among the black grape varieties most used at the Fattoria Villa Matilde is Aglianico, particularly widespread in southern Italy and in all likelihood originating from Greece. Primitivo grapes are also often used, which have themselves been known since ancient times, and Piedirosso, native to the Naples area. The Falanghina white grape variety is of high quality, born in the Taburno area and used for the production of Falerno del Massico Bianco DOP. The most famous red wines of the estate are the Aglianico del Beneventano IGT "Rocca dei Leoni", the Roccamonfina IGT "Cecubo" and the Falerno del Massico Rosso DOC.
