In northeastern Syria, the Orontes Valley connects and delimits wild plains with cultivated lands. This is the cradle of the Roman Severan dynasty and the rich land that is home to the Domaine de Bargylus, owned by the Johnny R. Saadé family. Antioch is not far away and the nearby village of Deir Touma, literally “Thomas' Convent”, is close to relics of the Crusader era and the famous Saladin. Mentioned by Pliny the Elder, Mount Bargylus is known today as Jebel Al-Ansariyé. The vineyards are developed in Lattaquie, at a truly high altitude: 900 metres!, with large temperature variations from day to night which favor the development of aromas in the grapes and wine. The climate, different from that of Château Marsyas (the other family business, in Lebanon), is cooler and less dry, thanks to the winds coming from the Mediterranean. These conditions allow the production of truly qualitative and particular wines. The use of international vines (Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, ...) makes this winery of absolute excellence in the international wine scene. To try!
