Basilisco

The Basilisco winery was born from the recovery and valorization of the famous historical park of Cantine di Barile. Pearl of the southern wine scene, the Basilisco company with its recovery project effectively relaunches an important wine-growing area of Basilicata, namely the historical heart of Aglianico del Vulture. Managed by Viviana Malafarina, the company extends over 25 hectares of vineyards. Basilisco is located inside a stately building dating back to the 16th century. The spaces dedicated to winemaking and wine conservation are located in the Shesh caves, inside which the wine enjoys a constant temperature that varies between 16 and 18 degrees. It is precisely the temperature that makes this space the ideal place for processing and storing wine. As has always been done since ancient times, even today the Basilisco caves are the protagonists of the winemaking and subsequent maturation of Aglianico del Vulture. The Basilisco vineyards are cultivated in volcanic soil rich in tuff and with important layers of flysch, all elements that contribute to creating a terroir with unique characteristics. The hectares of vineyards are managed by the company following the dictates of organic farming, thanks to which both the plants and the soil reach the perfect balance so that high quality grapes are produced with as little intervention as possible. The Basilisco vineyards are cultivated at a height between 450 meters and 600 meters above sea level and are located in the Contrade di Barile with a strong wine-growing vocation, all facing south-east.
