Gabbas Giuseppe

One of the fathers in the rediscovery of Cannonau, Giuseppe Gabbas has been producing this extraordinary wine for decades and is considered among the most representative producers of Sardinia. The winery was founded in 1974 in the heart of Barbagia, in a valley at the foot of Supramonte, a few kilometers from Nuoro. A taciturn and very practical man, Giuseppe prefers to speak with facts and demonstrates with his constant work and dedication that he deeply loves his land and his vineyards. Naturally, Cannonau dominates the vineyard, alongside some rows of other native vines, including Bovaleddu or Bovale Sardo, locally called Muristellu, and a small plot of Vermentino. There is a lot of respect for nature, so his agriculture is inspired by the integrated pest control system and the vineyards, with a beautiful glance, are arranged like an amphitheater around the modern and fascinating cellar, camouflaged in the territory surrounding. The vineyards extend for approximately 20 hectares between 250 and 350 meters above sea level, on deep soils of granite origin which have the beneficial property of retaining a certain humidity, even in long periods of drought, which then benefits the vineyard. The climate, which enjoys the influence of sea breezes and the proximity of numerous mountain ranges, is characterized by good temperature variations, which guarantee excellent ripening of the grapes. Giuseppe Gabbas aims to exalt the typical features of native grapes, above all. From his cellar, powerful wines are born, but also endowed with finesse, highly enjoyable, capable of transmitting the typical nature of the wonderful territory from which they arise.
