Falesco Fam. Cotarella

The Falesco winery was founded in 1979 in Montefiascone by the brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella: two oenologists, deeply rooted in this land between Lazio and Umbria who, over the years, have held important positions in the wine sector, obtaining significant recognitions. One of the first objectives of the company was to recover the ancient vines of the area. In fact, in the past centuries the territory had enjoyed a fame that derived from the production of extraordinary wines, exclusive to the papal canteens and the ancient nobility but, for countless decades, it had been in a worrying situation of abandonment. Thus began long years of research and selection with the aim of isolating ancient clones, now considered extinct, and delicate microvarieties, but of unparalleled aromatic and organoleptic value, which had almost completely disappeared in the specialized vineyards of the 1960s. Alongside this recovery operation, we attempted to identify the wine-growing areas where the exposure and particularity of the land could guarantee very high quality wines. Here the oldest and rarest local white grape varieties had survived, including Roscetto. Finally, since January 2015, with Dominga , Marta and Enrica Cotarella , a new, third generation has officially taken over the helm of the family business. An epochal transition which, more than thirty years after the foundation of Falesco, marked an important and innovative corporate repositioning. The great passion and great competence of the owners were the essential elements that led to the production of very interesting wines known and appreciated by the public of connoisseurs and by national and international critics.
