Caccia al Piano 1868

Tenuta Caccia al Piano, as the prestigious winery we know today, was born from the great intuition of Franco Ziliani, former owner of Guido Berlucchi and pioneer of the birth of the Classic Method in Franciacorta, since the 1960s. In fact, at the beginning of the 2000s, he decided to bet on an emerging territory like that of Bolgheri, in Tuscany, with the aim of trying his hand at making great red wines. The purchase of Tenuta Caccia al Piano, which took place in 2003, was decided after visiting the San Biagio vineyard, a beautiful hill which enjoys a wonderful position, in the Bolgheri area, and a fascinating view of the sea. The estate is located in Castagneto Carducci, in the hamlet of Bolgheri: this farmhouse, dated 1868, was used for hunting and was owned by the noble Della Gherardesca family. Thanks to careful renovation work, with full respect for traditions and the surrounding area, the building was expanded and transformed into the current location of the winery. The estate consists of 23 vineyards. The age of the plants varies from 13 to 18 years and four real crus have been identified: San Biagio Le Grottine, Cantina and Le Bozze. The winery was inaugurated in 2014, and is adjacent to the historic hunting lodge, in a logistically strategic position. The barrel cellar is underground, houses 700 barriques and some oval barrels, and is located 8 meters deep, thus benefiting from constant temperature and humidity. In the Boghero tradition, the cultivated vines are mainly the 2 cabernet, merlot, petit verdot and syrah with the addition of the typical vermentino. With an annual production of over 100,000 bottles, this company offers wines of notable structure, characterized by longevity and balance, and above all characterized by a profound territorial identity. Labels that faithfully reflect the best essence of the Bolgheri lands and the best Supertuscans.
