Portwood Single Malt Welsh Whiskey is a distillate produced by Penderyn Distillery, a company opened in the presence of the Prince of Wales less than twenty years ago. It is the first distillery built in Welsh territory. In the panorama of Single Malts, Portwood represents a truly original exception. In fact, it is produced thanks to an unprecedented distillation system in this category, which uses a single copper alembic which is made up of two distinct columns for distillation. As far as the maturation phase is concerned, the process is certainly more traditional. The whiskey rests inside American oak barrels in two distinct phases: the first employs barrels that have previously been used to refine bourbon, while the second takes place inside barriques previously used for the production of Port.
