Elio Grasso

The company, located in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, has 42 hectares, of which 24 are woods and meadows, which surround the 18 planted with vineyards, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The owned vineyards have always constituted the company's heritage, in an area that has always been considered highly suitable. The first logical consequence was the choice to vinify and bottle the grapes from the vineyards separately, starting from 1978. The policy of small steps began with progressive replanting of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto and, since 1986, also a small plot of non-native grape, Chardonnay, "educating" it to be an expression of the terroir in which it was introduced. Currently the average production does not exceed 90,000 bottles, a quantity that allows us to maintain a familiar approach to the work and meticulous control in all phases, from work in the vineyard to that in the cellar.

Over the years, Elio Grasso has become a point of reference in the Langhe and today he carries on this great Monforte reality together with his wife Marina Fontana, his son Gianluca, who has supported him since 1996, and Enrico Marchisio. The cellar, largely dug into the hill behind the house, guarantees ideal temperature and humidity conditions for the vinification and maturation of the wines. The vineyards are surrounded by woods, followed and cared for personally to avoid abandonment; the sensitivity towards maintaining a balanced agricultural ecosystem is perceivable from these choices, which go far beyond the vineyard.

All of this contributes to the creation of wines of impeccable expression of a precise style that is careful to enhance the territoriality of the vineyards and territories. The Elio Grasso winery has a very high profile production, with attention to detail and capable of expressing wines with a strong and complex character, typical of the territory, at each harvest.
