Mario Marengo

The Mario Marengo winery owns its own vineyards in the municipality of La Morra, one of the most suitable of all the Langhe, with optimal exposures, especially in the Brunate crus and in the Bricco delle Viole, at 350 meters above sea level. A very respectable business card for a winery that has respect for traditions first and foremost. For Mario Marengo the past coexists with the present, in an agricultural and winemaking job that has never changed. Today he is a respected winemaker and considered one of the most talented in the area, of an innate talent and of the previous generations who founded this winery, still at the beginning of the twentieth century. In the heart of La Morra, with a total of 7 hectares of vineyards located in the best crus of the area, we pursue the idea of giving life to local, traditional wines, sometimes austere and superb, but worthy of the glorious past, without chasing "passing" fashions, which only wink at foreign markets. Integrated pest control is practiced in the vineyard, treating only copper and sulphur, while in the cellar indigenous yeasts are used to start the fermentations. All vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Only change? The use of barriques in the cellar for the long aging of Nebbiolo, instead of large barrels, but the use is more than parsimonious, imperceptible in the glass.
Furthermore, Eugenia Battaglino, Mario's wife, became part of the Marengo family, bringing her Roero vineyards as a dowry, thus expanding the range of labels. In addition to the undisputed King of Piedmont wines, Barolo, the Mario Marengo winery proudly offers the region's traditional red grape varieties, such as Dolcetto and Barbera.
